How Did This Happen To Us
STAYING HEALTHY DURING QUARANTINE
THE
BASICS:
EAT HEALTHY – What does that mean? Basically, what you want to be consuming are
foods that are alive such as plant foods.
Food that have come out of the ground, or off a plant or tree. You want to be eating fresh and organic as
much as possible, however, during this time, organic may not always be readily
available. Don’t fret over it, buy conventional,
and make sure to wash it well with a vegetable wash. Do not use soap and water because you risk
getting diarrhea from using soap. If you
don’t have vegetable wash just load up a bowl with fresh water and let the veggies
soak for a few before rinsing really well.
Another option is to buy produce that is already packaged if you feel it
has less contamination that way.
Do whatever feels good for you and your family as long as
you are choices are healthy ones.
If you eat meat, then of course you want to be selecting the
finest quality of meats, sourced sustainably, and raised in a healthy, clean organic
environment. This again may not be an option during the pandemic, but try as
best as you can to source from a quality butcher, or Health Food Store who follows
such practices.
SHOPPING
TIPS:
·
Don’t be a hoarder. Yes, everyone is trying to limit the amount
of times they go grocery shopping, but no one needs a 6-month supply of toilet
paper. Let’s try to be more conscious of
others during this time of uncertainly and fear, so, no hoarding.
·
Stock up on the basics. Condiments you are
running low on, and items such as honey, sauces, olive oil, vinegar, and your
personal favorites.
·
Shop the perimeter of the store first. That’s where you get your fresh produce,
meats, and dairies.
·
If you already have meals planned then have a
list in hand with ingredients needed.
·
Limit Processed Foods
Practice
Self Care:
What is it and how do I do it? So many women are so busy taking
care of their families and working that they leave no extra time for themselves
and self-care. Well I am hear to tell
you that self-care is one of the most important things you should be doing for
yourself before you do anything else. It’s
like the concept of the oxygen mask on the airplane where you first take it for
yourself before administering to anyone else.
The same goes for self-care. If you are depleted, how can you be there
for anyone else? You must first take good care of yourself. That’s the premise of self-care.
Self-care can be anything that makes you feel good as long
as it’s a healthy option. Drinking a
bottle of wine is not going to fall into the self-care category, sorry ladies!
·
Taking time daily for meditation, daily
reflection and prayer.
·
Allocating time daily for exercise.
o
It doesn’t need to be an elaborate workout. It could be a walk in the sunshine, a short
yoga routine, lift some weight for strength bearing exercise. Do something
different each day. I have a mini rebounder that I use daily while listening to
iTunes. The key is to move your body daily especially during this quarantine.
It’s good for your body and your mind because working out releases’ endorphins,
your feel-good hormones!
·
Connect with Friends and Family by Phone, or Zoom
or Skype
·
Spend Time Each Day Reading
·
Give yourself a facial
·
Diffuse essential oils for a calming effect
·
Take this time to reflect on what’s truly
important in your life
·
Taking a long hot bath at the end of the day filled
with salts and lavender essential oils, that’s self-care!
·
Turn off electronics one hour before bedtime
·
Be sure to get between 7-8 hours of good rest
each night

No one is saying this is an easy time, but I believe that it
is all in the way we handle ourselves that will make all the difference. How we look at this experience is how will we
will feel. Yes, it’s overwhelming and
such a scary time in our lives. It can
be paralyzing at times. It’s our choice
how we want to handle it. I have already
gone through many phases of changes during this time.
I am human like everyone else. I was paralyzed by fear initially, and let me
not lie, I am still somewhat paralyzed by it all, but I am trying my hardest to
do all the things I am suggesting you do. We truly are all in this together,
globally. No one escapes it. Rich or poor, and apparently sick or not;
there is no rhyme or reason conclusively yet as to why some survive and others
do not. I’ve heard about 97-year-old
diabetics who have gone home from the hospital, and I have also heard about
perfectly healthy 30 and 40-year old’s who have succumb to this deadly virus.
There are no definitive answers here. Not
having the answers, or when we get conflicting answers to our questions. This all causes more anxiety. Fear of the unknown.
What makes me feel good is knowing that I am personally
doing everything I can to stay healthy.
I am practicing good hygiene, and I am staying home as much as possible
and only go to the supermarket every other week. I do walk outside, but I make sure not walk
where many people are walking. I will
cross the street if I feel it’s necessary.
I just try to practice safe techniques to keep me and others out of harm’s
way.
Every morning I wake up grateful. I am grateful that I woke up, and I am
grateful that I feel my best. I myself
am practicing a lot of self-care. More
so than ever before because I have more time to do so. I am working from home which gives me back 3
extra hours per day to do the things I have been wanting to do for so long that
I just never seem to have time to do. So
I am looking at this time of my life almost like a gift. A gift of time from the universe telling me
to go ahead and explore what’s deep inside of you. Take the time to get to know you better.
